Introduction

This year, my painting and photography folios both have the same concept: fantasy existing in the real world. This idea comes from my love of fantasy movies, books and TV shows (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, etc.)

My plan for my folio is to start with simple images of my subject matter, establishing the objects. On my folio already, I have ten photos: two rows of five. These photos are of a carnival mask and some books I own (Harry Potter, The Hobbit and Peter Pan). They all have exaggerated contrast, depicting bright lights and heavy shadows. I've used this contrast to add mystery and intrigue to the objects, immediately alluding to them as magical things.

As my folio continues, I plan to further explore the fantasy elements that exist in my photos by using camera tricks and photoshop to create surrealism, and to introduce more subject matter.

  1. beautiful photos, now i want you to discuss the centre of interest in 2 of them and the rule of thirds and how it affects both the bcentre of interest and relates to your concept. please refer to my blog for the teachign notes about this and feel free to browse the other students blogs in determing this. Terence, Samuel, 'Ailine and Marissa have done well with this. See you tomorrow

  2. there could be something you could do with playing with light escaping or leading you through different place. how you begin to arrange your work on the board could be a play with following the trail of light around not only the images but the board itself? just a thought. how did you get on with that Artist model with the big long name? G something? (Am still sick and cant remember)

  3. I like the idea of using light as a trail or path through my folio. For the artist model (Carol Golemboski) I tried using Photoshop tools to create the scratched texture she uses on some of my own photos, but it didn't really look right, just kind of silly and fake. I think if I did used that technique for my folio, I'd have to do it on the actual printed photos instead of using Photoshop. I've also been trying to find some other artist models but it's difficult to find some that could work well with my ideas. Some that I like so far are Lilo Raymond and Josef Sudek.
